Common questions

Which format should I convert my PNG to?

Use JPG for photos, WebP for web images that need transparency, PDF for documents, ICO for favicons and Windows icons, and TIFF for print and archives. The table on this page shows more.

Is PNG better than JPG?

They are good at different things. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which suits screenshots, logos and text. JPG is much smaller for photographs.

Do I lose quality when converting from PNG?

Converting to JPG, WebP (lossy), AVIF and HEIC is lossy to some degree. PDF, TIFF, BMP and lossless WebP don't use lossy compression. Keep your PNG as the original.
