About PNG to EPS conversion

EPS is a PostScript-based format that print shops, publishers and some stock sites still request. A raster EPS like the one this tool makes wraps your pixels in a PostScript container so layout software can place them. It does not create editable vector shapes.

If a client asks for a vector EPS of a logo, you'll need the original vector artwork or a proper trace in Illustrator, Inkscape or Potrace. This page is for the case where the recipient needs an EPS file but is fine with a placed bitmap. EPS is converted on our server, and files are deleted automatically within 30 minutes.

What happens to transparency

EPS doesn't support alpha transparency. Transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose, white by default.

When EPS is the right choice

  • A publisher or printer's checklist specifically asks for EPS
  • Placing a bitmap in older layout software
  • Submitting artwork to systems that predate PDF and PNG support

When to use something else

  • Expecting a scalable vector. Trace the image or use the original artwork for that.
  • Web use, where EPS isn't supported
  • New projects. PDF is the modern replacement.

Frequently asked questions

Is the EPS a vector file?

No. It contains your PNG pixels wrapped in PostScript. For vector shapes, trace the image or start from the original vector artwork.

Why do printers still ask for EPS?

It's a long-standing interchange format in print. Many printers now accept PDF, so ask whether a PDF will do.

What happens to transparency?

EPS has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose.

Are my files uploaded?

Yes, for this format. Browsers can't create EPS, so the image is sent over HTTPS to our server, converted, and deleted automatically within 30 minutes. Formats like JPG, PDF, ICO and GIF are converted entirely in your browser.

How many PNG files can I convert at once?

Up to 50 files, each up to 100 MB. Add them together and download everything as a ZIP.
