About PNG to HEIC conversion
HEIC is the default photo format on modern iPhones. It stores photos at a much smaller size than JPG at comparable quality. Most people searching for HEIC want the opposite direction, turning iPhone photos into JPG or PNG, but converting PNG to HEIC makes sense when you want to store large screenshots or renders compactly in an Apple ecosystem.
Browsers can't write HEIC, so this format is converted on our server. Your file is sent over HTTPS, converted, and removed automatically within 30 minutes. If you'd rather keep everything on your device, convert to WebP or JPG instead, which happen in your browser.
What happens to transparency
HEIC can carry transparency, but support varies between apps. If the destination app shows a solid background, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
When HEIC is the right choice
- Compact storage of images on iPhone, iPad and Mac
- Apps and workflows that already use HEIC
- Saving space on large photo libraries
When to use something else
- Sharing with Windows, Android or web users, who may not be able to open HEIC
- Websites. Browsers don't reliably display HEIC, so use WebP, AVIF or JPG.
- Anything that must stay on your device. Use a browser-based format.

Frequently asked questions
Why is HEIC converted on a server?
Browsers can't create HEIC files, so the encoding has to happen elsewhere. Files are sent over HTTPS and deleted automatically within 30 minutes.
Can I open HEIC files on Windows or Android?
Sometimes, depending on codecs and app support. For maximum compatibility, share JPG or PNG instead.
Is HEIC better than JPG?
For file size, usually. For compatibility, no. JPG opens everywhere.
Are my files uploaded?
Yes, for this format. Browsers can't create HEIC, so the image is sent over HTTPS to our server, converted, and deleted automatically within 30 minutes. Formats like JPG, PDF, ICO and GIF are converted entirely in your browser.
How many PNG files can I convert at once?
Up to 50 files, each up to 100 MB. Add them together and download everything as a ZIP.
