About PNG to PSD conversion
PSD is Adobe Photoshop's native document format. Converting a PNG to PSD gives you a file that opens directly in Photoshop and most editors that read PSD, such as Affinity Photo and GIMP, which is handy when a workflow or template insists on a .psd.
The PSD this tool creates has a single layer containing your image. It does not reconstruct layers, text or effects, because a PNG doesn't contain them. PSD is converted on our server, and files are deleted automatically within 30 minutes.
What happens to transparency
Transparency is kept. The image arrives as one layer with its alpha channel intact.
When PSD is the right choice
- Workflows or templates that require a .psd file
- Starting a layered edit from a flat PNG
- Handing over a file to a designer who works in Photoshop
When to use something else
- Expecting layers, text or smart objects. A PNG can't contain them.
- Web or email use. PSD files are large and not browser-friendly.
- Archiving. PNG or TIFF are better for flat images.

Frequently asked questions
Will the PSD have layers?
It will have one layer containing your image. A PNG is flat, so there are no layers, text or effects to recover.
Why is the PSD bigger than the PNG?
PSD stores pixel data with lighter compression, so files are larger than a well-compressed PNG.
Do I need Photoshop?
No. Affinity Photo, GIMP and other editors can open PSD files too.
Are my files uploaded?
Yes, for this format. Browsers can't create PSD, so the image is sent over HTTPS to our server, converted, and deleted automatically within 30 minutes. Formats like JPG, PDF, ICO and GIF are converted entirely in your browser.
How many PNG files can I convert at once?
Up to 50 files, each up to 100 MB. Add them together and download everything as a ZIP.
